Funny thing, and tragic at the same time.
For the past 3 days I've been putting this Indivisa Manent slogan as my YM status. Then just yesterday, I had this YM conversation with a very good friend of mine, V:
V: Indivisa manent? what's that mean?
Me: forever undivided
Me (being too helpful, sigh...): it's another motto of De La Salle
V: SHIT!!!! ....such attractive
V (typing really fast): what is un-devided
Me (in this point I didn't really get what he meant, my poor English....but took it what he meant was, "Too bad....I find the motto attractive, but apparently it's a La Salle's....it's just way too much...undivided?? You're not joking right?): don't mock me on this okay...
Me (also typing real fast): I'm not talking about DLS Manado, I'm talking about the whole De La Salle Family...
Me: this motto is St John Baptist De La Salle's family motto, dates back to the 1630s
V: ops, sorri, my only experience with La Salle is with DLSUM(anado)
Me: yeah, right....I take it that most people that's been to our campus and mockingly call them Lasallians will say the same thing also.
Me: poor thing..

He's a really good friend of mine, I share with him everything that I can share about the Lasallian world and Lasallian friends and Lasallian families and Lasallian connections and whatchama call it Lasallian spirituality, all that sort of things...and he found the motto shitly attractive!!!! He didn't even ever heard of the motto! Well, at least I'm taking it so....because had he known it, he wouldn't ask me the meaning, correct...???
Okay, he pobably was talking about the current situation in our campus (o Saint Baptist De La Salle, pray for us!), but oh comeeeeee onnnnnnn mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn..............!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How would us to know there'd be progress if people think alike like you, V????!!!!!?!??!?! Gosh, the sarcasm of that!
Now, referring to that....I couldn't stop but wonder how would anyone else --- who is joining the civitas academica DLSU now, or were (namely, alumnis), or will (namely, students-to-be) --- feel about the motto?
INDIVISA MANENT - Forever Undivided, it's just my way of translating that.... the history of it lies below:
The house of De La Salle was first established in Urgel, an area of Catalonia, Spain, where the form of the family name was "Salla." The head of the family, Johan Salla, Warrior in Chief of Atphonus the Chaste, King of Oviedo, expelled the Moors from Urgel and reestablished the Episcopal See in 818. The broken legs he sustained during combat as he fought side by side with his king are the origin of the broken chevrons on the De La Salle's coat of arms.
In the thirteenth century, the La Salle family migrated to the Basque province in the south of France, and though their name became French, they retained "Salla!" as their battle cry. The ancient motto of the family is "Que sien toustem ligato amasse," which in Gascon dialect means "Let us all be united!" or "Let us all stick together!" The Rheims branch of the family translated this motto into the Latin "Indivisa Manent," which is the present wording of the motto on the coat of arms (of the College).

Now, I told V that it dates back to the 1630s..I was just guessing it then, taking in mind that St JBDLS was born on 1651. As you can read on the above, it might've even dates back to the 800's....gee.....!!!!! You're darn right, I'm sooooo proud to be part of this Lasallian family!
This is just a short (???) note to people who might feel unease being part of my almamater (namely, De La Salle University of Manado).....love thy home, folks! Like it or not, it's your home. You breathe its air, you study (and work) there, you liaise with the people, you get its name on your batch shirts and your almamater jackets, you sing its almamater song, you're prayed by its Patron...there's no way escaping it. Everything that is genuine will last, and as the worldwide Lasallian institution reaches over than 300 years in existence.... what makes you think that our University wouldn't make it also?
We have all the resources and the back-ups we need from our Lasallian Family (Sir Ngenget: Brother David wouldn't give up on us, right? :D ), ....all have the responsiblity...so let's all stick together!!!
